YOUR FIRST TIME COLONIZING

Another big element to Outer Empires is colonizing. Colonies are used to research new items, manufacture items, mine resources, and to mark territory. They can also be used to defend a solar system, store mass resources, and alert you or your faction if danger is lurking. Though advertised as a simple, easy to control aspect of the game, colonies require a lot of work. You will soon realize this.

Recommended to read before continuing:

Colonization

Other things useful:

Colonies can only be repaired with processed aluminum, whether bought at the market or mined yourself.

You can stack (Or build multiples of) all buildings for quicker refine, process, manufacture, and research times. Stacking the Communications Array will have no extra effect.

Shields regain health even without workers, just very slowly.

You can have up to 250 colonies under your belt at one time.

If you own more then 50% of the colonies in a system then the system ownership will switch to your faction's name. If you are not in a faction then it will show in yellow as "Colonized" on the Galaxy Viewer.

------------------------------

1. You first need to decide what you want to do with your colony. You can refine gases into fuel, mine and process resources, research a new product, or manufacture a new product. Or, of course, you can mix it up.

2. Now lets choose a location. Some key things to remember: You can not colonize in government systems (green on your Galaxy Viewer). There can only be three different colonies per planet and three per moon at a time. You, yourself, are only allowed ONE colony per planet and ONE per moon. Now for the location. This is very much dependent on what you intend to do with your colony. For example: If you want to mine a resource and sell it then you will want to colonize on a planet/moon with that resource on it. Do this by scanning, going to a station, and reading it. The scan will tell you what resources, if any, are located on the planet/moon.

3. Got a location? Good. Click on the planet and click the colonize button. You will be prompted to name your colony (Up to 12 characters long).

4. After naming it, your colony has been created! Unfortunately at this point, with no buildings your colony, it is considered a flag. You now have two days to start building on this flag or else it will start to shrink in size. Once the size hits 4, your colony is gone and you will need to replant.

5. To prevent your colony from shrinking, lets build on it! All colonies need a power plant before anything else. These can be found at the market in the form of a flatpack ranging in price from 1,000 to 3,000 credits. All power plant flatpacks are the same.

7. After purchasing your power plant flatpack, bring it to your colony. After moving it over from your ship cargo to your colony hangar, press the Build Building button. Select the power plant flatpack and hit Build. It will take about FIVE hours to complete.

8. Once the power plant is complete, you can now build the other three necessary buildings for your colony to thrive. You now need a habitation unit, water purification plant, and edibles unit. This will provide food/water for your workers as well as a place for them to live. Workers will not last long without this. All three of these buildings can be found in the market in the form of flatpacks. Again, if all built at the same time, they will take about FIVE hours to complete.

9. When those last three buildings are complete you colony is no longer considered a flag. It will retain it's size unless the buildings are destroyed or demolished.

10. Lets put some workers on your colony now! Workers can be found in market under the Misc. Resources tab. They are about 80 credits a piece. Go ahead and buy at least two.

11. Move the workers from your ship cargo to your colony hanger. Go to your newly built Edibles Unit and move the slider over ONE worker. Do the same for your Water Purification Plant.

12. Your colony will now grow freely. It is currently at size 10 and will gain by 1 every 25 hours. (With at least 1 worker) All colonies cannot exceed size 50.

13. Now you wait. You need to wait for your colony to grow in size so you have enough room for more buildings. The order in which you place these new buildings is up to you. Some prefer to get right to mining/manufacturing/researching, but others prefer to be more secure by building a shield generator as soon as possible.

14. Check back on your colony often to see how it's doing. Unless you have a Communications Array built, you will need to check your Colony Management tab often to see if it has been attacked. If it has been destroy you will receive a PM/New Mail.

------------------------------

Congratulations! You have built your first colony. Hopefully it will thrive into a full size 50 with many buildings and workers.
