The following is Soul Seizer's guide to OE Combat for first timers (Noobs)

COMPLETING YOUR FIRST COMBAT JOB SUCCESSFULLY

Combat is what everyone wants to do when they first start Outer Empires. It is what runs the galaxy, it is what keeps people in line, and it is what is used for revenge. In addition to that, combat jobs these days are highly rewarding. They can pay up to 10x more then transport jobs. This is, of course, if you don't take any damage to your ship and have to spend money on repairs.

This is your guide to completing your first combat job successfully.

Recommended to read before continuing:

Ships and Ship Stats
Ship Modification

------------------------------

1. First you need a ship with guns. You can verify that your ship has weapon slots by going HERE.

2. I recommend not attempting combat missions until you at least have a Light Cruiser. But I guess any old ship, besides the shuttle, will do. A warning, though: Any ship lower in rank then the Light Cruiser is highly susceptible to hull damage, which you don't want. The Light Cruiser has enough ENG CAP to fit shields. Shields will prevent hull damage as long as they are in-tact. Shields regain health, while your hull does not unless you pay for it - which can be extremely expensive.

3. Let's make sure your ship is up for combat. Combat ships need a lot extra care then transport ships. They require extra parts to work correctly. These parts are: weapons and targeting computers. These will be added to your ship which should already have: the hull, propulsion, a jump drive, life support, and navigation computers. Highly recommended for your ship are: shields and power generators. Remember, your shield cap is your ENG CAP. Anything above that is discarded. Unlike shields, armor can be stacked as many times as you want and will retain it's full defense.

4. Now, assuming you know how to accept jobs by now (You shouldn't be reading this unless you do), go to a station and scroll to the bottom of the Jobs/Missions list to find available combat jobs.

5. There are several things to look at when accepting combat jobs: the distance, the ship you will be fighting, how many ships your will be fighting, and, of course, the Exp/Credit reward. It is common to accidentally accept a job to a system that your ship cannot reach; so before accepting anything search the system using the Galaxy Viewer (Black map to the bottom right for browser users).

6. Once you have accepted a job, let's do one last systems check. Do you have fuel (Green bar to the bottom left)? Is your hull in tip-top shape (Red bar to the bottom left)? Are all ship parts on your ship (Weapons, Targeting Computer)?

7. Let's complete this mission! Undock from the station and head to the system boundary.

8. Jump to your destination - this is the system where the ship you have to fight are.

9. Once at the system, open your tactical map. The CPUs (Ships you must fight) will appear as red and they will be grouped together at a random planet. You can hover your mouse over the red dots to see their randomly generated names.

10. Now is a good time to refresh (F5 for browser users) to ensure you have the best possible chance at wining this fight.

11. Look at the planet your enemies are at. Head to this planet via the Object Explorer (Tab that shows planets/stars/stations in a system).

12. Once arrived at the planet, click on an enemy ship and click the target icon. This is the icon with the cross-hairs.

13. A red ring will appear on the ship you selected to target. At the bottom of this ring is a count down. You must wait till this hits zero to start firing.

14. Once you have locked on/targeted your enemy, you can start to shoot. Select the red ring and select the purple missile icon. This will show the weapons that you fitted onto your ship earlier.

15. Select the small "A" to initiate auto-fire. You must do this for all guns on your ship individually.

16. Now you wait. If your shield becomes low, don't hesitate to back off for a bit so it can recharge. Select a planet on the Object Explorer to go to. Be warned, though, the CPUs will follow you but at a very slow pace.

17. Once you destroy a ship, you will receive a notification in your chat along with a small exp reward. Keep destroying the ships until you they are completely gone. Once you destroy the last ship you will receive a notification in chat along with your exp and credits reward. If you have not received your credits, then there is another enemy ship that has not been destroyed yet!

------------------------------

Congratulations! You have completed your first combat mission - and hopefully you have completed it successfully! A successful mission completed is one where you have received minimum hull damage. Hopefully your shields held up and you were able to withstand the force of the CPUs!

You can repair your hull at any station via the Ship Modification section.
